COACHES COLUMN
Swallows Players Back In The Saddle Again 30/06/03
The Moroka Swallows squad are back in training after a short lay-off at the end of last season and coach Gavin Hunt resumes his exclusive column for the club's official website, talking this week about the new boys who have already signed and also possibly one more to be added to the squad....

The boys have been back in training since last Thursday. It was good to take a break from soccer, but I do not feel that the four weeks most players got is long enough. I like my guys to have at least five or six weeks off, but with the busy domestic schedule, it is just not possible.

We are still encountering the basic teething problems that are expected at this time of the season as we wait to find out exactly which players are still available, who is out of contract and which new players will be joining the club.

We also held open trials on Monday, and some of the selected players are now training with the squad as well. Hopefully we can acquire a few gems out of these.

As far as our new signings go, Rufus Makoti is already training with us, while George Hummell is expected later today (Monday). Albert Kometsi is still with the Under-23 squad and I will give him time off when he gets back, as he has just completed a very long season.

The club is currently targeting Chiefs striker Shaun Permall, whom we expect to join us in the next couple of days. He is an experienced player, having enjoyed success down in Cape Town with Ajax before joining the Amakhosi. Hopefully he can add some bite up front for us.

At the moment we are just doing basic groundwork and fitness - not much ball work until we have finalised the content of squad.

Once this is done, then we will start getting down to the serious stuff as we prepare ourselves for our first competitive game - the SAA Super Eight match against Golden Arrows on August 16.

Thanks again for your tremendous support and we hope to see you all at the Rand Stadium next season. And don't forget, if you want to vote for us to be at the Charity Cup, the number is - 086 22 33 810.
