Moroka Swallows kicked their season off with a great 1-0 win in the SAA Supa 8 against Golden Arrows in Durban on Saturday. Read on to find out what coach Gavin Hunt thought of his team's display...
I was very pleased with the guy's performance. We took a bit of time to get going but once we did I was very happy with the effort the players gave me.
Arrows are a tough team who were obviously pumped up to get a result in front of their home supporters, so to come away with a victory was an outstanding result for us.
We also need to take into account that we are still missing a few key players such as Warren Lewis and Shaun Permall, who are a very important part of my plans.
Goodman Mazibuko is still not match fit as he was not with the squad during our preseason training.
On top of this we also lost Albert Kometsi after he received a nasty knock to his ankle inside the first 20 minutes. Fortunately Papi Mbele came on and did a really good job for the team.
I was also forced to play Dennis Lota slightly out of position, but he still did an excellent job for the team - Dennis is a great professional and it is a pleasure to work with him.
I feel confident that we can go all the way in the Supa 8 competition, especially with the elimination of Pirates and Chiefs, and I am looking forward to the draw for the next round.
But for now we need to take things one game at a time, starting with our opening Premier Soccer League (PSL) fixture against Wits University on Friday night.
Wits are a very strong team these days and promise to be a totally different proposition to Arrows and I will be adjusting our tactics accordingly.
