Gavin Hunts Moroka Swallows showed they mean business in the New Year with a comprehensive 2-0 Premier Soccer League win away to Golden Arrows on Saturday.
Goals from Bafana Bafana winger Japhet Zwane and Papi Mbhele consolidated the Beautiful Birds sixth position on the log, having now won seven of the 14 games for their 24 points.
The loss is an ominous sign for Arrows, who had surprised many with their good start to the season that had them sitting pretty in fourth position at the end of the year.
But with many tipping them for a slide down the table, this was hardly the start they needed to the new year.
Zwane broke the deadlock at the King Zwelithini Stadium on 56 minutes when he slotted past Arrows stopper Davies Phiri after a good pass from Utur Combonoio.
It was his second goal in two games after he also scored the winner in the 1-0 victory over defending champions Santos at the Rand Stadium just before Christmas.
Mbhele then benefited from a quick counter-attack as Swallows secured the game with the final kick of the game.
