Moroka Swallows have signed young SuperSport United defender Rufus Mokoti on a three-year deal as they look to strengthen the left side of their defence, an area of concern in the closing weeks of last season.
The 23-year-old Mokoti had a superb campaign with United, who pipped the Beautiful Birds to second place in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), and therefore a place in the African Champions League.
Swallows coach Gavin Hunt was delighted with the capture of the youngster, who he sees as one for the future.
"He is young and has good pace about him," Hunt told Morokaswallows.co.za. "He is also left sided, which we need to shore up. He comes with a good pedigree and I am sure it will work out well for us."
Mokoti, who has eight national Under-20 caps, featured in 29 out of the 34 PSL games for United last season
He says he is sad to leave the club, but is looking forward to a fresh challenge.
"I am looking forward to new challenges at Swallows and hope to do as well as I did for United in my first years," he told the clubs official website.
SuperSport director of football, Stanley Matthews, added his praise for the departing player.
"He is only 23 and a model professional and we wish him every success for his future. As a tribute to his great service to the club, we will give him his sign-on fee for next season even though he would not be with us," he said.
