PREVIEWS/REPORTS
Birds' Pre-Season Going Well
The Moroka Swallows squad has been hard at work getting into shape for next season. The team has recorded a number of victories in friendly matches, with the latest being a 3-1 win over Classic last weekend.

One of the Birds' new signings, former Hellenic midfielder Albert Kometsi, proved to be the hero of the day as he grabbed all three goals against the first division side.

Swallows also played against Jomo Cosmos, but unfortunately ended up losing 1-0 in a hard fought encounter.

But coach Gavin Hunt is very happy with the way his squad is shaping up so far:

"The new players have all been very impressive so far and they are going to add a lot to our squad. Albert Kometsi has really stood out, particularly against Classic, where he grabbed a hattrick," he told morokaswallows.co.za.

"I have a good idea of who will be playing in the starting XI. The attacking options are looking really good, though I think that we are still lacking a natural replacement for Jabu Mendu in midfield"

"Obviously Dennis Lota is lacking a bit of match fitness due to the fact that he played very little soccer last season. But we all know what a quality player he is, and his experience is going to be very important to us this season. The supporters can look forward to seeing him back to his best again." he added.

One of the few worries to emerge for coach Hunt is the reoccurrence of striker Shaun Permall's ankle injury.

"Shaun's injury is a bit of a concern to me. He has only trained twice with us and now finds himself sidelined again. This is the same ankle injury he had at Chiefs and so we need to make sure he is 100% fit before he rejoins the squad for training."

The Swallows squad will be travelling to Venda on Friday to partake in their final pre-season warm-up games. The Birds will be facing fellow Premier Soccer League teams Dynamos and Leopards over the weekend.

These matches will give the Swallows management a final chance to look at the players before the first competitive match of the season - the SAA Super Eight clash against Golden Arrows on August 16.
