I will put my body on the line - Hendricks
Moroka Swallows goal keeper Conrad Hendricks has spent much of his time on the bench this season, but plans to make the most of the opportunity afforded to him by the absence of first choice stopper Greg Etafia.

Etafia was shown his marching orders in his team's last Castle Premiership match of the season against Kaizer Chiefs and he is out of the Absa Cup final on Sunday against Manning Rangers.

Hendricks has always impressed in the limited time he has played this season and is confident that he can do the job for Gavin Hunt's men on Sunday.

"I was the number one goalkeeper at Black leopards last season before I joined Swallows and I am not surprised that I will start on Sunday," said Hendricks.

He said he has already started in six matches for the Birds this season and he knows what is expected of him.

"I was just unlucky at the beginning of the season when I joined Swallows, I played in a number of games and the team was not doing well and I lost a good chance to claim the number one jersey then," he said.

The Vereeniging born goalkeeper said he is under no pressure to play like Greg Etafia and he knows that as the last man in defence for the Birds, he has to put his body on the line for the team to lift the Absa Cup.

"The coach knows what I am capable of and he just told me to play my game. I don't feel any tension at all and most of the players in the team feels the same. We all know what is expected and we are going to do that," he also said.

Hendricks said that a capacity crowd will not intimidate him, but will rather motivate him.

"We need to win the Cup and I will not be intimidated by the expected big crowd but it will bring the best out of me and the whole team.

"Swallows have waited for 13 years to lift a Cup and l want to be part of the history to end that drought and I will put my body on the line on Sunday, I need that Cup like all our supporters out there, so is all the players in the squad," he said.
