Swallows Slay Urban Warriors
Moroka Swallows completed a double over Ajax Cape Town after they knocked the Urban Warriors out of the SAA SUPA 8 competition following their 3-1 win at the Rand Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Birds beat Ajax 3-0 in their opening Castle Premiership fixture at the same venue last week, with striker Lungisani Ndlela scoring hat-trick.

However, the gangly forward had no such luck this time round and was substituted midway through the second half.

Brent Carelse opened the scoring for the Cape side early in the match, but a brace by winger Edzai Kasinauyo and late strike by substitute Alois Ngwerume ensured the Birds progressed to the next round.

Ajax started the match the better of the two sides, looking to make up for last week's defeat and were duly rewarded when Brent Carelse played a neat one-two with Josep Ngake before rounding Warren Lewis inside the Swallows area, but found himself having to challenge home keeper Conrad Hendricks for the ball as his touch was too strong.

And as both players went in sliding, the ball looped up off Hendricks to settle in the far corner of the Swallows net to the Ajax fans into a frenzy.

The visitors could have extended their lead after 18 minutes when skipper Bradley August put in a good cross for unmarked striker Grant Igesund, but the youngster sent his header just wide of the far post.

Although the Urban Warriors enjoyed most of the opening exchanges, it was Swallows who looked the more dangerous each time they moved forward.

Ajax defender Dikulu Bageta made a superb tackle inside the area when Lungisani Ndlela ran through on goal, but the Democratic Republic of Congo international ensured his team maintained their slender lead with brilliantly timed challenge.

But Swallows grew stronger as the match went on and with the home fans spurring them on, started imposing themselves on the game.

Former Ajax skipper Alfred Phiri was industrious in the Swallows midfield and constantly broke up Ajax attacks deep inside his own half.

Swallows equalised in the 23rd minute when man-of-the-matchCecil Oersen ran onto a defence-splitting pass from Phiri to surge inside the area before cutting the ball back for Kasinauyo to slot home from close range.

Ajax keeper Innocent Mayoyo, playing his final match for the Urban warriors before his move to Maritzburg United, made several top-class saves to deny Swallows from extending their lead in the first half.

Swallows started the second half much stronger, but it was Ajax who created the first real chance of the half when substitute Nathan Paulse found Brett Evans on the left flank, but the defender's cross was way over-hit and glorious opportunity was lost.

However, it was the home side to went ahead in the 69th minute when Kasinauyo collected the ball on the left flank before cutting inside to send a looping shot over the head of Mayoyo and into the top left corner to make the score 2-1.

The Birds made it 3-1 11 minutes later when Ngwerume ran onto a Phiri through-ball to calmly slot the ball past Mayoyo to put the tie beyond doubt.

Swallows now progress to the next round and will face Sundowns in the next castle Premiership clash, while Ajax face Bloemfontein Celtic at Newlands and will be looking to get their season back on track.
