Birds Looking To Keep Pace At The Top
Moroka Swallows will be looking for nothing less than maximum points when they take on Wits University in a Castle Premiership encounter on Saturday afternoon.

The Beautiful Birds are currently lying in third place on the Premiership table - four points behind Sundowns and Pirates.

The aforementioned clubs are playing each other on Sunday, and a draw in that game, coupled with a Swallows victory on Saturday, will see the Birds close the gap on the leaders.

"We need the three points for us to keep up with the two front-runners," said Swallows' tough tackling midfielder Alfred Phiri.

"We have not won in our last two PSL games, and we are determined to mount a strong challenge for the league, so a victory tomorrow is vital," he continued.

The closure of the Rand Stadium has lead to the Birds playing at the Herman Immerlman Stadium, but Phiri says that this is not a problem for the team.

"Playing in Germiston will not affect us because it is a good stadium," said the former Bafana Bafana international.

Although the Clever Boys have not enjoyed the best start to the season, having only collected nine points and scored four goals in seven games, they are always tough competitors and will certainly offer Gavin Hunts's men stern resistance.

'Wits are one team that are full of surprises, but we are prepared for them," said Phiri.

On player who will be determined to emerge victorious is utility player, Ivan Winstanley, who joined Swallows from Wits during the off-season.

Winstanley has mainly been used by Hunt in defence, and this is likely to be the case on Saturday, meaning that the defender will come up against the likes of Alois Bunjira, Gareth Devine, Stuart Murisa and Etienne Bito'o - players he will certainly know a thing or two about.
