Egypt's Ahmed 'Mido' Hossam has flown back to England after the postponement a friendly against Nigeria. Mido returned to join his club Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday morning ahead of their FA Cup game against Leicester.
He was due to play an African Nations Cup warm-up game on Monday against Nigeria, which has now been postponed.
Egypt's assistant coach Shawky Gharieb said: "He said he wanted to return to England and since our match was cancelled and we approved his request."
Mido will then stay with his club until January 15 and will be available for their Premiership match against Liverpool.
He will then join Egypt just five days before their opening match against Libya in the Africa Nations Cup on January 20 in Cairo.
