South Africans Star In Europe 29/04/03
Bafana Bafana midfielder Delron Buckley gave his side a Bundesliga lifeline when he netted a last-minute winner for Bochum against Schalke over the weekend.

The 25-year-old has not been in great form of late and started the match on the bench as Peter Neururer's side looked for their first win in nine games.

However, the South African proved his worth when he scored the late winner to move Bochum four points clear of the relegation zone.

Neururer paid the player the ultimate compliment after the game, saying: He is a candidate for Real Madrid if he lives up to his potential.

Manchester Uniteds Quinton Fortune was another to shine in Europe, playing a big part in the Red Devils 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

His mazy run and pinpoint cross to prolific striker Ruud van Nistelrooy allowed them to move five points clear at the top of the Premiership table from second-placed Arsenal.

Pity, though, that the winger was deemed too injured to fly to South Africa for Wednesdays friendly against Jamaica&

Elsewhere, Macdonald Mukansis CSKA Sofia look well on track for the Bulgarian title after a 4-1 win over Slavia Sofia on Saturday.

And although the lanky striker wasnt among the scorers, he was a constant threat as the victory moved them six points clear of second-placed Levski Sofia, who they face next weekend.

In Holland, Steven Pienaar again played a staring role as Ajax Amsterdam kept the pressure on PSV Eindhoven at the top of the Eredivisie.

The dreadlocked South African dominated the midfield to help his side to a 3-1 win away to AZ Alkmaar.

However, the victory still leaves them 11 points behind Guus Hiddinks side.
