Bid Committee chief executive Danny Jordaan says the confirmation of Tottenham Hotspurs tour to South Africa yet again reiterates the high esteem in which this country is held.
The White Hart Lane outfit have confirmed their tour to SA for matches against the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, while fellow Premiership side Liverpool are also believed to be on their way.
The visit of these two high-profile sides is part of the Bid Committees plan to prove the country capable of hosting big-name sides.
We have already had several international matches to showcase South Africas ability at national team level and now we want to prove the same with our club sides, he was quoted on Kick-Off, referring to Englands game against Bafana two weeks ago.
People around the world are also interested in the level of our domestic game and the only way to demonstrate the performance of our clubs is to match them up against top club sides from around the world.
Tottenham Hotspur present a perfect profile because they are a legendary club with past success at all levels of the game and managed by one of the worlds most famous former footballers, Glenn Hoddle, he added.
With this tour we are hoping to highlight the good health of the domestic league in South Africa and this is the beginning of a process in which we hope to bring more of the worlds leading club sides to our shores, Jordaan said.
