Bafana Bafana are out of the Cosafa Cup after going down 1-0 to Zimbabwe in East London on Saturday afternoon.
The inexperienced Bafana team started well and had a couple of early chances to take the lead, but were guilty of poor finishing.
Wits University's Gert Schalkwyk was unlucky in the 25th minute when he attemped to chip Zimbabwean goalkeeper Energy Murabondoro, only to see his effort sail narrowly over the bar.
The Zimbabwean's then took the lead a minute later when Sheffield United player Peter Ndlovu showed some neat skills down the left flank to fashion a cross. Defender Edward Malinga failed to deal with the ball and it fell to Lazarus Mohonu who beat Bafana keeper Moeneeb Josephs with a bicycle kick.
Daniel Matsau replaced Frank Makua in the 61st minute and joined Bheka Phakathi and Abram Raselemane in attack as Bafana looked for an equaliser, but it was Zimbabwe who nearly scored through a Charles Yohane shot.
Manqoba Ngwenya was then introduced for Abramam Raselamene, and the Wits striker did well to create a chance for his team-mate Benson Mhlongo, who fluffed the last opportunity the home side had to level matters.
