Moroka Swallows have moved into the semifinals of the SAA Supa 8 competition after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Durban side Golden Arrows at the Kings' Park soccer stadium on Saturday.
The only goal of the game was scored by the Birds' new Zambian striker Dennis Lota, who is a veteran of the South African game after a successful spell with Orlando Pirates a few years' back.
After a goalless first half that failed to provide many chances, Lota kept his nerve in the 49th minute to fire home after Arrows goalkeeper Davies Phiri had spilled a cross from Papi Mbele.
In truth Swallows were always on top in this match, though they did have a scare in the dying minutes as Arrows were awarded a penalty for an alleged hand-ball from Gary McNab.
The first effort from Mabhuti Khanyeza was fired home, but the home side left in despair second later as the referee ordered him to take it again after a couple of Arrows players had entered the box too early.
The second spot-kick was well-saved by visiting goalkeeper Greg Etafia, who pushed his side into the next round.
There they will join Wits and Cosmos, who defeated Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates respectively.
