Birds Beat Nine-Man Santos 10/09/03
Moroka Swallows got their first win of the Castle Premiership season with a 2-0 win over Santos at the Rand Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

After losing their opening game to Wits University and drawing with Zulu Royals, the Birds got off to a better start when midfielder Lucas Sebona scored the all-important opener in the 20th minute.

The home side continued their dominance and doubled their lead in the 57th minute when Dennis Lota netted, effectively sealing the game.

Disaster struck for Santos when both Thokozani Xaba and Fees Moloyi had to leave the field injured and, with coach Boebie Solomons having already made his allocated three substitutions, they were forced to play out the remainder of the match with nine men.

The three points are a welcome relief for coach Gavin Hunt, but for the People's Team it's a big comedown following Sunday's great 3-1 win over Sundowns.
