Shakes Splits Bafana Squad In Two 02/10/03
Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba on Wednesday announced two separate squads to take on Lesotho and Costa Rica in friendly internationals next week.

For the match against minnows Lesotho in Maseru on October 8 Mashaba selected a 14-man squad, while for the clash with Costa Rica, scheduled for Potchefstroom on October 11, the 53-year-old coach named a squad comprising both local and European-based stars.

The showdown with Costa Rica is part of the annual Nelson Mandela Challenge. The Central Americans are currently ranked 19th in the world. South Africa are 17 places further back in 36th position.

As expected inform veteran John 'Shoes' Moshoeu is part of both squads. The 37-year-old midfielder has been in scintillating form for Kaizer Chiefs this season netting six goals from as many matches.

Moshoeu joins six other Amakhosi players in the squad to take on Lesotho, alongside defender David Kannemeyer, midfielders Jabu Mendu, Stanton Fredericks, Jabu Pule, and strikers Patrick Mayo and David Radebe.

The big surprise in the squad for the Lesotho game was the call up of unheralded Silver Stars defender Oscar Ntwagae. He becomes the first player from the PSL rookies to receive recognition at national level.
