Mixed Night For South Africans 02/10/03
Steven Pienaar, Quinton Fortune and Nasief Morris played for their respective teams in match day two of the UEFA Champions League last night.

Ajax Amsterdam, where Pienaar is now a regular, won 2-0 at home against Club Brugge. the young Ajax team did not exert themselves and delivered a polished performance of their total football brand.

Pienaar took the corners and committed two fouls but was not booked, he was replaced by Nigel De Jong in the 60th minute.

Morris plays in central defence for Panathinaikos, who drew 1-1 against Scottish side Glasgow Rangers after trailing 1-0 from the 35th minute. The equaliser came as full time drew near in the 88th minute.

The former Santos defender Morris played the full game and put in a disciplined performance as his side fought back in a fantastic end to end game. The result means Panathinaikos have lost just once at home in 15 Champions League games.

Fortune's Manchester United were beaten 2-1 by Stuttgart in Germany at the Gottlieb-Daimler Neckarstadion.

Fortune came on for John O' Shea in the 65th minute at left-back, Ryan Giggs went to his favoured position at left-wing, and this tactical switch almost paid dividends.

Fortune played on the left midfield position against Panathinaikos on match day one, which Man Utd won 5-0.
