Santos captain Edries Burton says inform Kaizer Chiefs midfielder John Shoes Moshoeu will not be singled out for special attention in Saturdays Coca-Cola Cup clash.
Speaking to the Cape Times on Friday, the centre-back says the Amakhosi have such an array of star midfielders that it would be dangerous to target one player.
"What about Jabu (Pule) and Stanton (Fredericks)? Do we also give them special attention? I think it would be foolish to waste too many of our own players in man-marking roles, Burton is quoted as saying.
Burton also acknowledges that Chiefs, as the most popular and glamorous team in the country, bring out the best in most teams.
And, combined with Santos recent announcement of a sponsor with petroleum giant Engen, the 35-year-old believes the team will be chomping at the bit come kickoff.
"It's not that we would have performed with any less commitment (against Chiefs)," he says. "But the players will approach the game with so much more enthusiasm knowing that the club have at long last secured a major sponsor.
"There's an old saying that teams need no motivation to do well against Chiefs. That's true in a way, but there's no way one can deny the positive impact this week's announcement has had on everyone at the club."
Burton has captained The Peoples Team to glory in the PSL as well as the Bob Save Super Bowl, BP Top 8 and Absa Cup over the past couple of seasons.
Saturdays clash kicks off at 3:15pm.
