Good Signs For Cosmos 14/10/03

The Greek Gods will take heart from the fact that they produced their best result of the season, a hard-fought 0-0 draw against the Ezenkosi, a few weeks back despite Cosmos missing seven of their regulars through injury and suspension.

After that match it looked as though coach Clemens Westerhof was finally turning things around following a disastrous start to the Castle Premiership only for the team to again be thrown into disarray following a 4-0 hammering by Wits in Johannesburg last week.

Cosmos coach Jomo Sono, though, must be happy with the draw and confident his team can dispose of struggling Hellenic.

The Vosloorus-based team have become the cup kings of local soccer following their success in last season's tournament as well as the SAA Supa 8 earlier this campaign.

A good omen for Sono and his men is that they played Hellenic in the first round of last year's competition, a 3-1 setting them on their way to the title.

But with Hellenic looking to salvage something from a season that has them hotly tipped to be relegated, Cosmos can expect a tough fight on a night that also features the game between Ajax Cape Town and Dynamos.

Probable line-ups

Hellenic: Ormshaw, Greyling, Magolego, Montsi, Johnson, Khuzwayo, Mere, Ncaca, Budde, Mguni, Soma-Phiri

Cosmos: Phadi, Rabutla, Mohlala, Magalefa, Mhlate, Mokoena, Ntsume, Sephadi, Bucuane, Mwafulirwa, Cunha

Players To Watch

Hellenic: Vuyo Mere was not fazed against players like John Moshoeu and Jabu Pule in a recent game that Hellenic narrowly lost to Kaizer Chiefs. This showed that the young midfielder has what it takes to compete with the best, hopefully those around him will follow his lead.

Cosmos: Hard-tackling Teboho Mokoena will once again be out to show why he is Bafana Bafana's midfield anchor. He was also instrumental to Cosmos success in the SAA Supa8 and his steel in midfield will be needed against the likes of Mere and Gareth Ncaca.
