The Stanton Fredericks Interview... 28/10/03
SASoccer365.com recently spoke to Kaizer Chiefs star Stanton Fredericks about life outside Kaizer Chiefs, his opinion on the league and what he thinks of his fellow players....

So Stiga, which guys do you hangout with from the team?
There is no one or no specific guys that I Hangout (hangout) with at the club. There's no clique's amongst us, it's more like we're a big group of guys who go out together and enjoy each other's company. The other night we had a braai at Thabo's (Mooki) house for his birthday, so this is the usual thing.

We'll get together during the week or weekends and just chill.

So who is the loudest guy in at Chiefs?
Without a doubt it's Cyril (Nzama), you just hear Cyril's voice during training. He's a good motivator and he makes himself heard all the time.

And the funny guys?
Again Cyril, not only does he motivate but he'll make a fool of you when you make a mistake or something, you'll never hear the end of it especially with his big mouth. Jabu (Pule) and Brian (Baloyi) are always making jokes too, Brian's not as quiet as he seems you know.

How have the newest guys settled in, the likes of Mendu and Fransman?
Because we're such a tight unit and we all get along there has been no problems for them, they fit right in and it's like they always been part of the family.

What's your opinion on them?
Chiefs buys quality, they don't just buy anyone and they are good players in their own right. They definitely add value to the team.

So who is going to win the league and why?
Us, who else? Chiefs will win it because that is what we want more than anything else and the results are there all ready.

We also have depth, if one player is injured then there is another to replace him and that is one of our best strengths.

And who'll be relegated?
I don't want to jinx any team so I'd rather not say. Also it's a bit early to say who will be taking the drop.

What's the difference between a big club like Chiefs and a smaller club, like let's say Rangers?
Well the support base for one, it does not matter where we play there is always a massive following and that makes Chiefs much more attractive and personally it serves as  motivation for me to perform.

And also the history of Chiefs, the tradition. It's been a while since we won the league but with the current crop of players there is no excuse not to win everything. We also have a good few National team players in our team too.

Are you busy with studies Stiga?
No, no time man, it takes allot of your time. You know when we were at Wits Technikon I was called up for the National under-20 side frequently and I used to miss out allot, and therefore I'm dedicated 100% percent to my football career only. I just don't have the time for studying right now.

We are busy trying to establish a youth academy in Bosmont and Westbury. Myself, Junaid (Hartley) and Steve (Pienaar). We're just looking for good sponsorships now and hopefully it will be up and running soon.

It will be our way of giving back to the communities where we come from that support soccer in a religious manner, and also for the talent that's untapped in these areas we could assist them in getting to the top.

Oh and before you go, our readers would like to know what Stiga means?
(laughing) I get that allot. It does not mean anything specific, when I was much younger my uncle Gary called me that and it stuck, I think one of his friends names was Stiga, and it's spelt with one g.
