Moroka Swallows have been dumped out of the Coca-Cola Cup by Silver Stars after a 2-1 victory for the newly-promoted Castle Premiership team in Thohoyandou on Saturday night.
The quarterfinal clash was 1-1 at halftime.
SAA Supa 8 finalists Swallows would have expected to see off Stars, who have failed to register a win in the South African top division this season, but are notoriously difficult to beat on their own patch.
It could have been all so different after Swallows failed to captilise on the lead given to them by Alois Ngwerume in the 21st minute.
Gavin Hunt's side would have expected to push onto victory from there, but the home side pulled level on 37 minutes through Mduduzi Kunene.
The second half was filled with chances for both sides but it was the home team who scored the all-important winning goal through Thato Maleka, the former Kaizer Chiefs star netting 12 minutes before full time.
Stars join Wits University and Chiefs in the last four, the Amakhosi having beaten Ajax Cape Town 3-2 at Ellis Park in Saturday's other quarterfinal.
