'We Can Win The League' - Petersen 19/11/03
Peter Petersen is a product of the Hellenic youth system having come through the ranks as a teenager. Petersen, only 22, has been a professional footballer since age 17 and believes his time to represent the National squad is still coming.

He spoke to SASoccer365.com about his time at the club and what he hopes to achieve there.

Peter, welcome and tell us about yourself.
My name is Peter Patrick Petersen, I'm from Oceanview in Cape Town and I'm the eldest son of Peter Petersen, which makes me junior. I have three sisters, two of who are older than me.

Do you enjoy playing in defence?
Well yes, I've been a right-back since I was a youngster although under Bondas (Viktor Bondarenko) I was a wing-back which I enjoyed as I had the chance to score goals too.

And who are the guys that trouble you?
There's no one really, it's more like they scared of me.(he laughs) Let me tell you this. When we went to camp with the under-23's Patrick Twala and Joseph Makhanya were also there. They kept on talking about how they were going to run circles around me, but come match day Twala did not do much.

So you're a hard physical player?
Not really, I do make the guys aware of my presence because if you give them (Twala and Joseph) space and time they'll kill you. So I do my job first and I don't allow them that. I'm not a rough tackler.

Which teams do you like playing against?
Chiefs, Cosmos and  Pirates. I think because they have so much pressure on them they want to perform and to beat them is just great. Cosmos is another story, that team battles for 90 minutes and very hard. From the strikers through to defence they all give you a hard time.

What about your family life?
My daughter Tatum is one year and six months and she keeps me busy! I was just about to watch a movie when I discovered my dvd's are broken. She's so small and sweet so I'll forgive her. My girlfriend is Olivia Smith and she's been with me four years now. We'll get married next year December.

Who are your close friends in soccer?
If I'm not at home watching videos then I'm at gym working out with Jermaine (Christian) and Wayne (Roberts) who live just down the road from me.

We also go to Monte Casino and Cresta when we eat out, but when my mom and dad are here we go to Monte Casino becuse they like the gambling there. I love having my family over as I don't see them often and they'll be here over the Christmas period so I'm looking forward to doing that.

We hear your younger brother, James Petersen, is a, wait for it, a left back for FC Fortune?
My brother James is still young and he called me to boast about their recent win in the first division, He's really good so watch this space to see another Peterson in defence.

Can Swallows wint he league?
I'm working hard to be part of the team and to contend with the opposition. Last season we let it slip but I promise you this has fired us up even more and we are ready to take the league my brother.
