Wilfred Mugeyis form for Ajax Cape Town has not gone unnoticed by the Zimbabwean selectors after the veteran striker was named in their squad for the Africa Nations Cup.
Zimbabwean national coach Sunday Marimo told SASoccer365.com Mugeyis vast experience would come in handy at the continental showpiece in Tunisia early next year.
"He might be 34 years old but with his experience we need him for the finals, said Marimo. With the way he has been playing for Ajax Cape Town, it will be doing injustice to the country if I did not include him."
The Silver Fox, as Mugeyi is affectionately known, admitted he never thought he would play for Zimbabwe again after last pulling on a national jersey in 2000.
"This is a surprise to me because I thought I was not going to be part of the team because they qualified without me, Mugeyi told SASoccer365.com.
Now to hear that the coach needs me in the team is a very special moment for me.
Mugeyi said featuring in the finals would be the appropriate time to bring the curtain down on his illustrious career.
"It will be the right time for me to retire from football after playing in the African Nations Cup, he said.
There will be nothing left for me to play for after Tunisia, so what better way than to go out while I am still at the top.
Mugeyi has played for his country 60 times.
