Orlando Pirates star Benedict Vilakazi has revealed how he double-booked two of the biggest events of his life his wedding and the big Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs.
Speaking to Soccer-Laduma, Vilakazi insisted that the clash of dates was unplanned and a big coincidence.
When I chose my wedding day I checked the fixture list and because initially the Chiefs/Pirates clash was scheduled to be played on the 20th of December, I chose the 13th instead, he said.
However, the match was moved forward by a week by the league and it coincided with my wedding.
I couldnt move my wedding date because everything had been planned and the invitations had already been sent.
Vilakazis participation in Saturdays match at the FNB Stadium remains in doubt, although moves are happening behind the scenes to ensure he is able to fulfill both commitments.
Famously, Buccaneers legend Jomo Sono led the club to victory against Highlands Park on his wedding day, leaving the reception early to make a substitute appearance.
Negotiations are still going on about what will happen on Saturday but I am not sure whether I will emulate Jomos feat, said the 21-year-old Vilakazi.
It is a great thing to be associated with Pirates legend like Jomo, however things are now different from the past and it isnt easy to do such a thing as the wedding ceremonies take time and certain rituals have to be followed.
I think things will be clear on the eve of the game. I will possibly know by Friday, as Orlando Pirates management continues to negotiate with my parents.
Its not only my decision obviously, he added.
