South African soccer legend Doctor Khumalo believes the Soweto Derby between archrivals Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates is bigger and more passionate than any cup final.
Writing in his weekly column for Soccer-Laduma, the 36-year-old Khumalo said: No doubt, this is the big one. Bigger than any cup final.
The former Chiefs ball wizard, who is now part of the clubs technical team, also said their was added needle to Saturdays encounter with the Sea Robbers at the FNB Stadium.
We need these three points badly, he said. We need to keep on moving up the table and this game could be vital in achieving that goal.
Khumalo said he expected the game it be extremely intense and full of the usual passion that characterises clashes between the traditional rivals.
He would not however be drawn on making predictions, rather wanting his charges to prove their worth in the cauldron of battle.
Im going to leave it to the boys on the park to do the talking, wrote the former midfielder. Their performance will speak volumes; say more than I could ever say in my column.
He did, however, have a word of caution to fans of both clubs.
Its understandable that there will a lot of passionate people at the stadium, said Khumalo.
I would just like to appeal to all fans from both teams to keep on behaving as well as they have over the last couple of months.
The last thing we want to see is ugly incidents up in the stands.
