Fans To Get Christmas Bonus - Phiri 15/12/03
Ajax Cape Town captain Alfred Phiri has promised the club's loyal fans that the players will give them an early Christmas present in the form of six points rom their two remaining games before Christmas.

With two games to go before the Christmas holidays, Ajax Cape Town are looking at going to the holiday break with maximum points from the two remaining games.

The first stop starts with Sundowns on Wednesday night in Pretoria (Kick-off is at 7pm), while the team's last game before the break is against Golden Arrows on Saturday.

Despite having two coaches, Sundowns have not been producing the goods on the field of play. At the same time Ajax are on a mission, and on this mission they are not taking any passengers, but leaving casualties. Sundowns are their next victims.

The Brazilians have been having a terrible season, especially by their own high standards.

The three-time Premier Soccer League champions are languishing in 11th position, and are currently only two points above the relegation zone, despite being touted by some as being early season favourites for the title.

The Urban Warriors, on the other hand, have been enjoying an outstanding season, which has come as a welcome relief to all involved with the club after their brush with relegation last season.

Ajax captain Alfred Phiri knows that his team will still need to be at their best as Sundowns will have a point to prove, especially after failing to pick up a win against Golden Arrows last weekend.

"Sundowns are not doing very well  and they would love to embarrass us, by beating us. They will be desperate to show their fans that they are still a force."

Ajax's strike-force has been somewhat weakened in recent games due to suspensions to Mulekalayi Kanku and Wilfred Mugeyi, but good news is that the former will be available for Wednesday's clash.

"Our team have been under a bit of pressure because we were missing some of our key players to suspension but Kanku will be back in the side," said Phiri.

"As a team, we are not happy with our scoring rate, we have spent some time on shooting and Sundowns are just going to receive what our strikers have been polishing," the captain warned.

"We just want to go to Pretoria and bring three points as a early Christmas bonus for Ajax supporters who have been our pillar of support," said Phiri in recognition of the excellent support his team has been receiving around the country.
