Pienaar Will Play - Agent 06/01/04
Steven Pienaars agent has rubbished reports that the Ajax Amsterdam midfielder will miss the African Nations Cup in Tunisia through injury.

On Monday it was claimed that Pienaar had failed to recover from a niggling knee problem that has kept him out of the game for the past two months.

However, his agent Rob Moore, scoffed at this claiming the player had responded well to treatment and was determined to play in the continental showpiece in North Africa.

"Steven left Johannesburg on Sunday and returned to Amsterdam as Ajax wanted him to undergo further tests, Moore told The Star newspaper on Tuesday.

Those tests were to be held today and tomorrow and if everything goes alright he is hoping to play for Bafana against Mauritius in the Cosafa Cup this weekend.

Steven called me today and he said he was feeling much better and was dead keen to play in the Nations Cup, added Moore.

The results from his tests are likely to be known tomorrow and he will take it from there.

Moore also said the Westbury-born player had maintained a good level of fitness by training on his own but that it would take a bit of time to get him back to his best.

"Steven hasn't played since October, so he will need to get match fit again, said Moore.

Expecting him to make the starting line-up against Mauritius is obviously far-fetched, but he hopes to be ready to compete in the Nations Cup."
