Ajax Cape Town defeated Wits University 2-1 at the Bidvest Stadium on Tuesday night to go on top of the Castle Premiership log, two points ahead of Kaizer Chiefs, with Grant Igesund scoring a brace for the visitors.
The game started at a slow pace with both teams playing defensive football as they went into the break goalless.
In the second half, the visitors came back firing on all cylinders. They first made their intentions known in 47th minute when Igesund received a pass from the left-flank and he beat two Wits defenders, but his shot went wide of the upright.
But in the 53rd minute Igesund opened the scoring after he was put through by Brett Evans and he beat Clever Boys keeper Wayne Roberts with a well-taken shot.
Wits came back in the game when they scored their goal through Alois Bunjira, who netted in the 65th minute with a header from a corner kick.
But Igesund put the Urban Warriors back in front two minutes later, heading past Roberts to take them above Kaizer Chiefs in the log.
It was Wits' second defeat of the season after they lost their opener 1-0 to Santos.
