The suspension of Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba has seen email flooding into the SASoccer365.com offices with some supporting Safa's decision with others supporting the coach.
Safa are correct in suspending Shakes Mashaba as National coach because since he took over overseas based players are pre-maturely retiring from the national team and he is the cause. Hence SAFA made a right decision by suspending him, after all he is not bigger than the interest of SAFA and the nation as whole. Best wishes for Bafana Bafana ahead of the AFCON showpiece in Tunisia. - Ngonyama Hendrik
South African football will never improve if we do players special favours. sSakes is right by not allowing players to come late because those players will be behind in terms of training and game plans. It is time for SAFA to reach an agreement with overseas clubs. It is not Shakes' duty to make sure those players are available but SAFAs. Shakes' duty is to select players and coach them only. Yes they are 100% correct to suspend Shakes. He actually dug his own grave buy using local players during qualifications and then dumping them for overseas players. The fact of the matter is that Bafana will not go far in Tunisia whether he called all the overseas based players or not. If I was him I would have selected all the inform locally based players who are more likely to play their hearts out and die with their boots on rather than select the overseas celebrities who dictate when they want to come and play, how they want to play, but never deliver for South Africa. I would rather lose with players who will give 100% effort and are not worried about the games that they are missing for their masters in Europe. There is life after Fish, Bennie, Shaun, Lucas etc. Fortune for me is a non starter, I said this before and I will say it once more, this guy may be warming the bench or playing here and there at Man United but he has done nothing for Bafana Bafana in the past or for domestic South African football in particular. He has been selected because he has been on the books of Athletico Madrid and recently Man United. No honourable coach can look me in the eye and say that he selected Fortune because of good performances at club level. To me he has always been selected on the fact that he trains with one of the "top clubs" in Europe and we hope that one day he will deliver the goods and be the star of South African football like Lucas. This has never happened unless I am missing something. SAFA must appoint a new coach on Wednesday next week for the Nations Cup only. Thereafter they (SAFA) must dissolve with immediate effect after the Nations Cup. Their blunders are too many to talk about now. Maxwell Khubeka
I think SAFA did a very good job to suspend the coach. Before Shakes became coach of the national squad, he was supposed to go to a management skills course to learn how to lead staff.
You know those players who are playing abroad are employed and are being paid good salaries by their employers. There must be a good relationship amongst Shakes, employers and the players. Another thing we cannot compare local players and those players abroad. Maybe what Shakes is doing is because he doesnt even know or has never been to those countries, or never played abroad which shapes his attitude towards players playing abroad. Mpo Masikhwa
I think Safa are making clowns of themselves by doing this. What is the point behind it? Shakes will be the coach again in a weeks time so why bother. They should fire him and give the job to Gordon Igesund and his assistants should be Boebie Solomons and Roger De Sa. But maybe these three gentlemen are wise enough not to get entangled in the Safa web. They are by far a better option than the 'toilet cleaner' Jomo Sono. Why do they want a coach whose team can't even win the league?? He may have been a great player but as a coach he hasn't done much. I feel we need a new coach , who will be given time to get his team right and get the team playing well together and then we'll see results. We cannot expect to win everything and with this kind of mentality we will not win anything. We need continuity in our coaching and the full backing must be given to the NEW Bafana coach. Please Safa, let Shakes go. He's taken the pride out of playing for Bafana Bafana. Byron Stevens
I think we need to speak to George Bush and Tony Blair because SAFA is terrosing coaches . How many times must coaches that led us to qualification for major competitions be fired before they fulfill their dreams of winning the cup. I blame the politicians, Mr Unwanted at home Affairs Albert Mokoena has never kicked a plastic ball, Danny Jordan Never understands anything about soccer Mr Oliphant and Mr SA soccer Jomo Sono are Saddam Husseins and Robert Mugabes because they also dictate what happens at SAFA.
