The All Star AFCON 2004 XI 17/02/04
The 2004 African Cup of Nations has come and gone and many South Africans would probably rather forget the tournament all together after Bafana Bafana's failure to reach the knockout stages.

The competition was dominated by the North African and West African teams, with the gold medal going to hosts Tunisia, who once again showed what a difference playing in front of a home crowd makes.

This year's edition of the AFCON produced a record-equalling 93 goals (including penalties), a number of upsets, the emergence of a new breed of young Nigerian players as well as impressive debut's for footballing minnows such as Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

To wrap up our coverage of the tournament, SASoccer365's Shahied Joseph takes a look at the players he thinks would have made the All Star AFCON 2004 XI...

Formation : 4-4-2

GK :  Ali Boumnijel (Tunisia)

Defenders : Hatem Trabelsi (Tunisia), Noureddine Naybet (Morocco), Joseph Yobo (Nigeria), Khaled Badra (Tunisia)

Midfielders : Ziad Jaziri (Tunisia), Slim Benachour (Tunisia), Jay-Jay Okocha (Nigeria),  Seydou Keita (Mali)

Strikers :Youssef Hadji (Morocco) and Frederic Kanoute (Mali)
