Lebese has a lot to prove - Hunt 20/02/04
Coach Gavin Hunt has confirmed media reports that Thabang Chillies Lebese is training with Moroka Swallows but stressed that the veteran midfielder has a lot to do to prove his worth to the title challenging club.

Speaking to SASoccer365.com on Friday, the affable Hunt said the 30-year-old was being given another week to impress the clubs technical staff before any decision was taken on his future.

Lebese is training with us but we have not yet made up our mind about signing him, said Hunt guardedly.

He has had a few discipline problems in recent years so I want to give him another week to prove that he still has the dedication to succeed at the highest level.

Hunt said the Dube Birds cannot afford to carry any passengers as the season heads into its final stages.

Lebeses ability has never been in doubt and he has a great engine but he has to show me that he has a role to play at the club, said Hunt.

We cannot afford to have players kicking their heels on the sidelines and picking up big salaries without contributing anything, he added.

I hope we can work something out with Chillies but the ball is firmly in his court. He has to show me he really wants to make a contribution to our title challenge.

Lebese has become something of a nomad over the past couple of seasons as his career has followed a downward spiral.

The former Kaizer Chiefs star has had spells with Ria Stars, Orlando Pirates and Silver Stars as well as trials with just about every club in the Castle Premiership.

Living off his glory days at Chiefs, ludicrous money demands have often been cited as the root of his problems with various clubs.

The Orlando-born Lebese has one Bafana Bafana cap to his credit.

In his decade long career he scored 73 goals in 219 appearances for Chiefs, eight goals in 28 starts for Ria Stars and another four for Orlando Pirates in 22 games in their famous black and white strip.
