Kaizer Chiefs defender Peter Matshitse, who has just joined Zulu Royals on loan, longs to return to his former club Moroka Swallows.
A disheartened Matshitse spoke to SAsoccer365 reporter Shahied Joseph on Wednesday about his move to Usuthu and what has gone wrong at Chiefs as he prepares for the long haul to Durban.
SJ: Hi Peter, are you looking forward to joining Royals?
PM: Hey Shahied, yes I am. I want to play soccer and also I'd like to help them avoid relegation. I just want to get into the action.
SJ: Was ityour choice to move to Royals?
PM: Not really, earlier this season I was on the transfer list then I was taken off. Royals then asked Chiefs management for my services as they want to stabilise their defence. I don't have a problem with the move as I just want to play.
SJ: Why were you not getting into the Chiefs squad?
PM: Look they've got many good players and a big squad as you know. I also got injured and that did not help. Trying to break into a team is difficult especially after a long lay-off.
SJ: So when is your contract with Royals and Chiefs over?
PM: It's short-term with Royals, three months but then my contract with Chiefs finishes at the end of this season.
SJ: So where are you going to at the end of this season?
PM: I want to go back to the Birds - that is where I want to be!
SJ: That is where you played your best football and I suppose that is why Chiefs wanted you too?
PM: That's right man, I was happy there. I played regularly and I enjoyed my time there so I really hope they want me services when my contract ends.
SJ: Do you keep in contact with the guys there?
PM: Yes I do, some of them are very good friends of mine and I have a good relationship with Gavin Hunt.
SJ: Well Peter, good luck then on your stint to Royals, maybe Gavin will see this and he'll come calling for you.
PM: Thanks Shahied, I hope he does.
