Beckenbauer Still Behind S.A 05/03/04
Franz Beckenbauer, the chairman of German 2006 World Cup organising committee, has denied reports that he said Africa is not ready to host the world cup.

In a press statement released yesterday, the German football legend said, "My views are that a full rotation would result in Europe hosting a World Cup only once in 24 years."

Beckenbauer said he does not support the system where the World Cup rotates because Europe contributes about 80% of all the football economy.

The Bayern Munich legend not openly supported South Africa's Bid to host the 2010 World Cup, but said that it will be up to the German Soccer federation to make that decision.

He is still of the view that South Africa has the capacity to host the world football showpiece.

"My conviction on the state of readiness of South Africa to host the World cup has not changed. Anyone suggesting that I have changed my view on the matter is devious" said the 'The Kaizer'.
