Manning Rangers gave their success-starved fans something to cheer about when they advanced through to the semi-finals of the Absa Cup, thanks to a 2-0 win over Silver Stars at the Chatsworth Stadium on Thursday evening.
The win was coach Steve Komphela's first victory since his return to the Durban-based club.
Silver Stars, who have become known as cup specialists in recent times, started well, but had only themselves to blame for not turning their scoring opportunities into goals.
Dingane Masanabo was particularly wasteful for the visitors, missing three chances early on that could have swung the game the way of the Limpopo outfit..
Owen da Gama's men were reduced to 10 men in the first half already after Manqoba Mkhize received two yellow cards.
The home side first took the lead in the 53rd minute when striker Alton Meiring set up Welcome Mazibuko and the midfielder made no mistake in curling the ball around the Stars keeper.
In the 60th minute they made sure of the win when Keryn Jordan converted from the spot after he had been fouled in the box by Stars defender Oscar Ntwagae.
