Goal of the year for Slow Poison? 30/04/04
The late Lesley Manyathela is one of five candidates for the Goal of the Year award to be presented at the 2003 Caf Awards to be held in Yaounde, Cameroon on Friday night.

Also in the category is former Orlando Pirates skipper captain and Bafana Bafana international Mbulelo Mabizela, who now represents English Premiership club Tottenham Hotspur.

Manyathela is nominated for a bicycle kick goal that he scored against Angola in the All Africa Games qualifier.

Gladys Manyathela, his mother, will be attending the ceremony and if victorious will accept the award on her dearly departed son's behalf.

Former Ajax Cape Town and School of excellence product Steven Pienaar has been nominated for the Young Footballer of the Year alongside Ivorian international Kolo Toure who plays for English Premiership champions, Arsenal, and Nigerian sensation Obafemi Martins who stars for Inter Milan.
