Moroka Swallows hopes of finishing third in the Castle Premiership took a knock when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Jomo Cosmos at the Rand Stadium on Sunday.
For Cosmos the result was purely academic as they stand no chance of qualifying for the SAA Supa 8 next season.
In a generally dull match - which saw no score at half-time - a couple of substitutions by coaches Gavin Hunt for the Birds, and Jomo Sono for Ezenkosi, saw the match spring into life midway though the second stanza.
Cosmos substitute Mark Haskins came on as a 72nd minute replacement for Sonos son, Bamuza Sono, and put the visitors in to the lead three minutes later.
The goal came after Haskins picked up a neat pass from Bafana Bafana international midfielder Teboho Mokoena, to fire past Swallows keeper Greg Etafia.
Cosmos then battled gainfully to hold onto their lead, but with the final whistle in sight their disciplined defence let their guard down and Birds substitute Goodwill Motaung pounced to give his team a share of the spoils.
The result means Swallows now have 44 points from 37 games to occupy fourth place, three points behind Santos.
Cosmos, who are having an extremely disappointing season, have 27 points from the same amount of games and are in a lowly 11th place.
