Moeneeb Josephs has been handed a surprise call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad ahead of Saturday's 2006 World Cup qualifier with Cape Verde in Bloemfontein.
The Ajax Cape Town goalkeeper is set to join the Bafana camp on Tuesday and said he was thrilled to part of the squad.
"I have not been told whether I'll be part of the match squad, but that does not matter," he said.
"Just to be involved in the training camp is great."
Bafana team manager Stanley Tshabalala revealed that although Josephs will not be replacing Hans Vonk or Emile Baron, he will get a chance to impress coach Stuart Baxter.
Tshabalala also revealed that the Urban Warriors' stopper will in fact be released from the Bafana squad on Sunday, so that he can play for Ajax in their crucial Castle Premiership fixture with Hellenic at Newlands on Sunday.
"The coach wants to have a good look at Josephs," said Tshabalala.
"he considered it a good idea to invite him to the camp to expose him to the level of preparation he can expect should he be part of future Bafana teams."
However, Josephs could yet find himself starting on the bench on Saturday as Baron is said to be having problems with his release by Norwegian outfit Lillestrom.
