Police confirm soccer arrests 18/06/04
The South African Police Services have confirmed the arrest of a number of first division and Premier Soccer League soccer officials in a morning raid.

"I can't give out the names of the people whom we have arrested until they have appeared in court but I can confirmed that our organised crime unit have been busy since 2 in the morning arresting a number of soccer refs and officials," Police spokesperson Sally de Beer told SAFM.

She told the radio station that the arrests were done in seven provinces and more arrests are expected over the weekend.

Investigations into corruption in the local game were started about two months ago after Molefi Oliphant, the South African Football Association president, alerted police.
