Balfour win Swallows under-17 tournament 23/07/04
Moroka Swallows recently hosted an under 17 tournament which was held at the Dellville Germiston Grounds.

29 teams made the entry deadline, a further 11 teams had to be turned away as fixtures had already been drawn up.

Teams met for pre-registration on Sunday the 11th July where fixtures, rule and regulations and balls, PowerAde, one time juices and Moroka Swallows branded coffee mugs.

Nine teams traveled from outside the Gauteng province, namely : VK Young Stars (Mpumulanga),Bosveld F.C., Gesane Arsenal, Limpopo Sports Academy(Limpopo),Blue Birds F.C., Juventus(North West Province), Majola United, Jikeleza F.C. (K.Z.N)

Play kicked off at 9.00am every day, Quarter finals were played on Wednesday, with Moroka Swallows losing to Boksburg Pirates 2-1.

The other Quarter finalists were, Majola United, Balfour Park, and Kathlehong junior stars, Jacaranda Callies, Bosveld F.C., and VK Young Stars.

The 4 semi-finalists were: Balfour Park vs.  Kathlehong Junior stars, Balfour Park eventually winning on a penalty shoot-out 3-2.

The second semi-finalist was Boksburg Pirates vs. Majola United. Boksburg Pirates winning 3-0 on a penalty shootout.

Third and fourth playoff was won by Kathlehong Junior Stars.

The Moroka Swallows ladies team played curtain raiser to our final, showing off their new players for the season.  Judging from the supporters response they were duly impressed.  Moroka Swallows ladies will be a force to be reckoned with in the new season.

The Final was hotly contested with Boksburg Pirates first on the score board, with a thunderous shot from kick off which caught goalkeeper Allan Thomas off his line and totally unprepared for it.

5 minutes to the end of the game, Balfour Park scored; this put the game into extra time.  Both teams seemed close to exhaustion as they had both played semi finals which had gone into extra time and penalties, this game was to be no exception, the extra time over it went into a penalty shootout.

Boksburg Pirates were outclassed and Balfour won 3-0 on penalties.

Mr. Leo Gonsalves Balfour Park manager says: "the tournament was very well organized and is ecstatic over their win, they look forward to defending their title next year and hopefully Moroka Swallows will invite them again."

Goalkeeper of the tournament : Brian from Majola United

Golden boot of the tournament : Papa from Moroka Swallows

Player of the Tournament : Darren Patricio from Balfour Park

Fairplay team award : Juventus (Mafikeng)

Mr Paul Habbib Head of Development was suitable impressed with the talent displayed at the tournament and has got names of players who will be considered for trials for development in the New Year.

A big thank you to Grant Nicholls from Total, without whom this tournament would not have been able to be the success it was.
