Ninja training with Sundowns 11/08/04
Gabriel Mofokeng has been training with Mamelodi Sundowns at their Chloorkop training grounds since last Thursday, sparking reports that the youngster was on his way to the Brazilians.

Ninja, as he is more commonly known, who on the books of Ajax Amsterdam, returned to South Africa midway through last season in search of regular football and joined Moroka Swallows until the end of last season.

The former South Africa Under-20 international has impressed Sundowns coach Paul Dolezar during his week at Chloorkop.

"He is an exceptionally talented youngster," Dolezar told the Sundowns official website. "His physical conditioning is not up to scratch just yet and it is because he has not been training with any club since his contract with Moroka Swallows expired.

"But to his credit, he is working very hard and I am impressed by his work ethic and his attitude. He must double his efforts to reach the physical level of the rest of the team that traveled to Durban for pre-season training but like I said, he is working hard."

Mofokeng admitted that he had an opportunity to join the Brazilians during the off-season, but said that they could not reach a contract agreement.

"I have not signed yet," said the 23-year-old, "but things are looking great. The atmosphere here is wonderful and I think I can easily fit into the scheme of things here."
