New First Division Officially Launched 20/08/04
The National First Division and Mvela Golden League were officially launched on Thursday at The Venue in Rivonia.

The League, which kicks-off on the 28th of August at Kanyamazane Stadium in Nelspruit at 3:15pm will see 18 teams vying for the prestigious title of 'Champions of the Mvela Golden League'.

The newly restructured and streamlined 18 club League is made up of 14 teams from position two to eight (inclusive) of both streams from the old structure, two teams relegated from the Premier League and two teams promoted from the SAFA promotional Leagues.

The Mvela Golden League will be run as an entity on its own with a dedicated team of professionals who will be available around the clock to cater for all aspects of the League.  Andrew Dipela the newly appointed General Manager of the League will be running a tight ship in order to ensure its success.

Premier Soccer League CEO Trevor Phillips, Mvelaphanda Chairman Tokyo Sexwale, media, sponsors, and many other special guests attended the dynamic launch.

Trevor Phillips said, 'What the Mvela Golden League will give the teams is a platform to nurture their hopes and dreams of getting into the Premier Soccer League, an opportunity to build and grow strong so that when the time comes they will be better prepared to take their place in the Premier League bringing with them qualities that will benefit the League'.

Phillips went on to say to the teams present at the launch 'The gate is now open and there is a big open playing field in front of us, and I could not be happier that the man whose task it is to drive the league forward is, Druze Dipela'.

Andrew Dipela General Manger of the new National First Division said, 'Today is a great day for soccer in South Africa and I thank Tokyo Sexwale and his company Mvelaphanda for putting his confidence both in me and the new National First Division. Isukile, we wont let you down and thank you for your sponsorship.

The Mvelaphanda sponsorship of the National First Division is an investment in the future of football.

Tokyo Sexwale said, 'With South Africa winning the right to host the 2010 World Cup, our investment in the new National First Division was perfectly timed.  The players that will be playing in the 2010 World Cup will be developed in the Mvela Golden League.

"I congratulate Trevor Phillips and his team for bringing a dream to reality in the restructuring of the new National First Division, and wish Andrew Dipela every success.  We envisage the Mvela League being the kind of environment that even Premier League teams would not mind being relegated to.  To the Mvela golden League teams, good luck, play well, and be proud of the League you are playing in and we are proud that you are a part of our new partnership'.

Diadora, the technical Italian sportswear brand with a rich soccer history, are very excited to be involved with the Mvela Golden League as the kit apparel sponsor.

Diadora who presented their new kit at a fashion show at the launch said, 'We are delighted with our investment in the new League and believe our investment and commitment to soccer in South Africa will give us healthy returns.  We wish all participating teams good luck and success and enjoy wearing the Diadora kit.'
