Ajax Cape Town have signed former Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs star Marco Mthembu on a one-year contract on Tuesday.
The defender, who spent most of his career in America, expressed his delight at joining the Urban Warriors shortly after putting pen to paper.
"I am very happy after Gordon Igesund gave me a chance to play for a top team like the Urban Warriors after my contract ended at the end of July with Sundowns," said Mthembu.
Mthembu has been training on his own and conceded that he was on the verge of hanging up his boots and feels that this could be the season god has chosen for him to lift his first ever League Championship trophy.
"I have been playing with my new teammates for less than a week and the way they have been encouraging me to work hard has motivated me so much," said the 30-year-old added.
Mthembu said his first priority was to work hard at training and every thing will fall into place after that.
"The coach had a good talk with me and that motivational speech he gave me today, left me with no doubt at all that if I work hard I will be part and parcel of the best team in the country," Mthembu said
Mthembu is know to be a hard tackling player who loves the physical side of the game and with Igesund produce the best out of his players and Mthembu is no exception.
