Mvela Golden League kicks off in style 30/08/04
The National First Division - the Mvela Golden League - kicked off this weekend, and there was plenty of action, with 23 goals being scored in the nine matches.

The University of Pretoria team shot to the top when they thrashed Cape Town side Avendale Athletico 5-0 at the LC De Villiers Stadium.

The Pretoria side are joined at the top by Pietersburg Pillars, Free State Stars, Vasco Da Gama and Hellenic, who scored wins over Dangerous Darkies, Zulu Royals, Mabopane Young Masters and Louisvale Pirates respectively.

With a top prize of R300 000 for the league winners, R150 000 for the second placed team and R100 000 for the third placed side, there is plenty to fight for and fans can expect some top class action from the clubs who are vying for promotion to the Premier Soccer League.
