Porto have rejected Everton's bid for South African striker Benni McCarthy.
The Toffees had reportedly agreed a deal with the European champions for the 26-year-old, whose place at the Estadio do Dragao has come under threat following the signing of Brazilian Luis Fabiano.
However, Porto seemed to have a last-minute change of heart, with agent Rob Moore confirming president Jorge Nuno Pinta da Costa's desire to keep hold of the former Celta Vigo player.
"He is staying at Porto," he told skysports.com. "The president of Porto wanted him to stay."
McCarthy has been linked with a Premiership move on a couple of occasions, with his wage demands scuppering a move to Aston Villa, while a failed work permit application meant he missed out on joining Middlesbrough.
Everton are looking for a striker given Wayne Rooney's imminent move to Manchester United.
