Our time has come - Petersen 23/09/04
Birds talented defender Peter Peters believes this may be the season when the club finally lands the coveted league title.

Moroka Swallows right-back Peter Peterson believes the Soweto club can challenge for league honours this season.

Speaking to Soccer-Laduma, the Cape Town-born player said the close season signing of players liker Mohammed Ouseb, Ivan Winstanley and Zimbabwean Bhekithemba Ndlovu has given the squad more depth.

We have a much more complete squad with at least two players fighting for every position, Petersen told the weekly publication. All the players are more focused on keeping their places in the team and that is keeping everybody sharp.

The former Hellenic star also said that experience was another vital factor that would propel the Dube Birds to at least a top two finish.

The youngsters are learning from the older guys all the time, said Petersen.

The spirit is very high and everybody is doing well.

On a personal note he said that he was being kept on his toes by the arrival of Ndlovu who is challenging him for a starting place.

Petersen also revealed his delight at finally receiving recognition from the national selectors.

The 23-year-old was recently drafted into the Bafana Bafana squad ahead of their clash with the Democratic Republic of Congo after a spate of injuries left national coach Stuart Baxter struggling for defenders.

I was nervous! I had never been with the Bafana squad before and I knew that this was an opportunity to impress, said Petersen.

That was the only thing I was thinking. I needed to make a good impression.

Petersen never got a taste of the action against the DRC with Baxter instead choosing to go with Neil Winstanley at right-back.

However if he continues to perform like he has done for the past two seasons his time in a Bafana Bafana jersey will surely come.
