Wits University collected their first full points of the season when they beat Lamontville Golden Arrows 1-0 in a Castle Premiership match played at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The match started at a very slow pace with neither teams creating any scoring chances.
The Students had the better ball possession in the first half, which ended without a goal.
In the 56th minute, Arrows were reduced to 10-men when Lucky "Y2K" Sibeko was red-carded for a bad tackle on Sipho Mngomezulu.
With the advantage of an extra player on the field, the Clever Boys pushed deep into Arrows territory and in a effort to keep the Students at bay, Arrows defender Lesley Langa headed the ball into his own net when he was trying to clear Elasto Kapawenza's cross.
The defeat was not a good welcome for care-taker coach Professor Ngubane who was in charge of his first game for Arrows after head coach Simon Ngomane was suspended by the club's management for poor results.
