Khumalo shocked by Supa 8 defeat 08/10/04
Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has expressed his dismay at the club's shock defeat to SuperSport United in the final of the SAA Supa 8.

Writing in his latest column for Soccer-Laduma, the former Amakhosi ball wizard said he was amazed how the team conspired to lose to Matsatsantsa after enjoying the lions' share of possession.

"The stats made for some amazing reading. They had one shot and scored, we had a dozen and got nothing," said Khumalo of the 1-0 loss, in which Pitso Mosimane's SuperSport team failed to win a single corner.

"The possession statistic was so strongly in our favour that you have to question how on earth we lost this one!"

Khumalo was, however, magnanimous in defeat.

"At the end of the day SuperSport United won and I would like to congratulate Pitso (Mosimane) for winning it," said Khumalo.

"I know the loss left a bitter taste in the mouths of all those Chiefs supporters who filled the stadium, but we have to accept that we can't win every game we play.

"It's not like the teams we play against just roll over and play dead. They come to compete and now and then they will get the better of us," he added.

"We just have to make sure it doesn't become a habit."

SuperSport's victory in the season opening SAA Supa 8 was achieved courtesy of a second half Phil Evans penalty after Arthur Zwane handled inside the box.
