It was disappointing - Lekone 07/12/04
Despite his own highly impressive performance in Saturday's Coke Cup semi-final, Birds midfielder Pitso Lekone said that he was highly disappointed in the match against Kaizer Chiefs.

Making only his third start of the season, Lekone was a revelation in the Swallows midfield, yet despite his, and a number of his team-mates' good showings, lekone still ended up on the losing side.

"The mood in the changing room afterwards was like a funeral, " said the Sebokeng-born player. "Hunt was very angry with us. It was very sad that we lost.

"But on Monday at training he said that we must forget about the game, we must focus on going forward, and remaining in contention to win the league,' said the midfield star, who lists Sailor Tshabalala and Zinedine Zidane as his favorite players.

Lekone explained what was going through his mind the week leading up to the game: "Coach Gavin Hunt told me on Tuesday that I would be in the starting line-up against Chiefs and he said that I should make sure that I am prepared, focussed, and that my mind set should be right."

Asked if he felt whether or not he had something to prove to Hunt, the modest player replied: "Not exactly. I just wanted to play well, and make sure that we beat Chiefs.

"It has been disappointing for me to be on the bench this year - last season I was playing must more often, so I asked myself what I was doing wrong. I decided that it was all about me, and I told myself I have to work even harder, which is paying off for me now."
