Benni stars as Porto win Super Cup 12/12/04
Benni McCarthy starred for FC Porto as they beat South American champions, Columbia club Once Caldas, to win the Toyota Super Cup.

The Super Cup, which is in its last year of existence, is played between the current European Champions, and the South American champions.

McCarthy was a constant thorn in the flesh of Once Caldas, and looked the most likely player to score for the European Champions.

The Bafana Bafana star, who is second only to Shaun Bartlett as the country's all time leading goal scorer, twice had goals disallowed for offsides, while he also struck the bar with a scorching drive and narrowly missed with an audacious bicycle kick.

Despite, Porto's dominance throughout, the match failed to produce a goal in 120 minutes, forcing the tie to go into penalties.

Under immense pressure, The Cape Town-born player cooly slotted home Porto's fifth penalty, which ensured that they stayed in the game, and ultimately went on to win the match.
