Orlando Pirates arrive in Cape Town for their game against Engen Santos with an unbeaten record for the 2004 season. The two teams play each other on Sunday 19 December, 2004 at Athlone Stadium, with the game starting at 15H00.
Pirates have proved themselves to be a giant of South African soccer and this season they have set the soccer scene alight, with an unbeaten run of 11 victories with 23 goals scored and only three conceded in this seasons PSL campaign. Pirates have boosted their squad with the signing of Tyren Arendse from Engen Santos, and he has already won over the hearts of the 'Ghost'. Tyren has slotted in well with his new teammates and his return to Athlone Stadium is sure to be an emotional one.
The Santos victory against Manning Rangers has catapulted the team from second last to ninth position. The manner and the margin of their victory certainly indicates that they have found their rhythm and confidence. Santos overwhelmed Rangers in all departments, with their strikers having ripped through the Rangers defence with some good passing between the players.
On Sunday, for every ticket sold, R1 will be donated to the Red Cross Childrens Hospitals Burns Unit. At the halfway point of the 2004/5 season, Engen Santos has already raised R26 000 for the Red Cross Childrens Hospital through their 'Goals for Charity' campaign. Once again, spectators at the game will see two young mascots lead the teams out onto the field. Through this initiative, Santos hopes to raise the confidence of these burn victims and highlight the difficulty of their re-integration into society. The mascots will be the guests of Engen Santos for the day.
Last season the results between these two teams were:
01 November 2003, Engen Santos 2 - Orlando Pirates 2
11 February 2004, Orlando Pirates 2 - Engen Santos 0
The kick off is at 15H00 at the Athlone Stadium.
