From the birds nest: by Gary McNab 17/02/05
Moroka Swallows defender Gary McNab looks back at the happenings in the Bird's nest over the last seven days...

Here I am again with a round up of weeks news in the Moroka Swallows camp..

Let me start with our match against Orlando Pirates, these Soweto derbies are normally big occasions with lots of passion, excitement and controversy, and Saturdays game was no different!

We played some great football and really put a lot of pressure on the league leaders.  We should have been a couple of goals up at half time but was only 0-0, as we weren't able to capitalize on the chances we created.

Finally in the second half, the goal came through Dennis Lota, after a good cross from man of the match, Cecil Oerson,  Having not converted more chances earlier on, it came back to haunt us as Pirates equalized in the dying minutes.  It was heart breaking and sometimes soccer can be a cruel game.

It can also be a funny game.  After having played so well against Pirates we were shocking against Santos on Wednesday.  Although we played badly we still created a few chances but again never took any of them.

We were awarded a penalty which Alfred Phiri scored, but then unfortunately he was trying to clear a Santos cross he put the ball in our net.  The game finished 1-1, a very disappointing result and now we have to lift ourselves for our 3rd game of the week, Supersport United.  Its another home game and should be a good match.

Warren Lewis and Peter Peterson got injured yesterday so hopefully they will be ok.

I would like to welcome Ashley Opperman to the team.  He joins us from Ajax Cape Town, and made his debut against Pirates.  We wish him all the best with us.
